Where are titanium and titanium alloy materials used?

Titanium and its alloys have many excellent properties, such as light weight, high strength, high heat resistance, corrosion resistance and so on. Titanium and its alloys not only have very important applications in aviation and space navigation industry, but also have been widely used in chemical industry, petroleum, light industry, metallurgy, power generation and many other industrial sectors. Titanium in chemical industry and other sectors of the application of titanium is another significant characteristic of strong corrosion resistance, this is due to its affinity for oxygen is particularly large, can generate a layer of dense oxide film on its surface, can protect titanium from corrosion by the medium. Titanium metal can form passivated oxide film on the surface in most aqueous solutions. Therefore, titanium has good stability in acidic, alkaline, neutral salt aqueous solution and oxidizing medium. It has better corrosion resistance than existing stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals, and can even be compared with platinum. However, if the titanium surface oxide film can be continuously dissolved in a certain medium, the titanium in this medium will be corroded. For example, titanium in hydrofluoric acid, concentrated or hot hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid is corroded as these solutions dissolve the oxide film on the titanium surface. If oxidant or some metal ions are added to these solutions, the oxide film on the titanium surface will be protected, and the stability of titanium is increased. Chemical industry titanium in a variety of acid, alkali, salt medium, in addition to the four kinds of inorganic acids and highly corrosive aluminum chloride, has a very good stability. Therefore, titanium is an excellent anti-corrosion material in chemical industry, and has been more and more widely used. For example, the use of titanium anode and titanium wet chlorine cooler in the chlor-alkali industry has received very good economic results, and is known as a revolution in the chlor-alkali industry.

Petroleum industry titanium in organic compounds, except for the higher temperature of five organic acids (formic acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, trichloroacetic acid and trifluoroacetic acid), has very good stability. Therefore, titanium is an excellent structural material in petroleum refining and petrochemical industry, and can be used to make a variety of heat exchangers, reactors, high pressure vessels and distillation towers. Metallurgical industry titanium is an active metal, with good suction performance, is an excellent degassing agent in steelmaking industry, it can combine the oxygen and nitrogen precipitated when steel cooling. Adding a small amount of titanium (<0.1%) to steel makes it tough and elastic. Titanium is also an important alloy additive in steelmaking, aluminum smelting and other industries. Titanium has superconductivity and is a common superconducting material. In addition, titanium has good stability in acidic solution containing metal ions, so titanium is widely used in hydrometallurgical industry, such as copper, nickel, cobalt, manganese and other non-ferrous metal electrolytic production. Fertilizer industry urea is an important chemical fertilizer, urea, ammonia, ammonium carbamate and their mixture in the production process, under high temperature and high pressure condition is very corrosive, the use of titanium instead of stainless steel equipment life greatly increased, greatly reduced maintenance time. Therefore, titanium material is used in the main equipment of urea production at present. Seawater desalination and shipbuilding titanium is more resistant to seawater corrosion than any other metal and has special stability in both stationary and fast-moving seawater. Therefore, titanium is the ideal material for seawater desalination plant. The number of titanium applications in this field will be increasing. Titanium is an ideal structural material for shipbuilding industry, and has been widely used in many components of various ships and deep-water submarines. Titanium in the power industry contains chloride, sulfide and many other corrosive hot water has a good stability, so titanium has been used in a large number of thermal power plants as a cooling pipe heat exchanger. Using thin wall titanium tube instead of copper nickel alloy tube, not only greatly improves service life, but also greatly reduces maintenance time, and the economic effect is very remarkable. Titanium in paper making and textile industry has special corrosion resistance to chlorine dioxide, chlorite, chlorite and other bleaching agents. Therefore, titanium in textile printing and dyeing industry, paper industry bleaching equipment has an important application. For example, titanium sub-bleach machines work well. At the same time, there are synthetic fibers and other industries used as spinnerets.
