Titanium alloys for medical use in the direction of medical devices

Titanium alloy medical instruments are the third generation of surgical instruments after carbon steel and stainless steel. In order to improve the antirust performance of stainless steel instruments, they are often treated with chrome plating and electric polishing. But chromium is toxic, the shedding of chromium layer will cause a certain impact on the human body.

The advantages of medical titanium alloy for medical devices are:

1, the instrument is light and light, the operation process can reduce the damage to blood vessels, muscles, organs, reduce the fatigue of the doctor, medical titanium instrument is more suitable for fine microsurgery;

2, good corrosion resistance and non-toxic, equipment does not rust, the wound is not easy to infect, the wound healing fast;

3, the elasticity of medical titanium alloy is moderate, suitable for pliers, forceps, microscalpel and other instruments;

4. When operating under shadowless lamp, the reflective performance of medical titanium is weak, which is more suitable than stainless steel;

Medical titanium medical instruments mainly include: scalpel, surgical forceps, surgical forceps, chest enlargement, suture needle, suture line, etc. Compared with other materials (such as stainless steel wire), medical titanium wire has the advantages of less tissue reaction and better torsion resistance when used as surgical sutures. After suture, the operative wound is not easy to inflame, and the bone suture site is not easy to shift. Medical titanium wire (TA1 or TA2 wire) with diameter of 0.5~0.8mm is generally used for suture lines. In addition, titanium-nickel alloy wire can produce soft elasticity, can promote rapid wound healing.

In addition, medical titanium alloy is also an important material for auxiliary rehabilitation equipment, such as wheelchair, walking stick, splints, medical instruments, etc.
