Main uses of molybdenum

Molybdenum is mainly used in iron and steel industry, most of which is directly used for steelmaking or cast iron after being crushed by industrial molybdenum oxide, and a small part is smelted into ferromolybdenum and then used for steelmaking. The molybdenum content in low alloy steel is not more than 1%, but this aspect of consumption accounts for about 50% of the total molybdenum consumption. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel can be improved by adding molybdenum to stainless steel.

Adding molybdenum to cast iron can improve its strength and wear resistance. Nickel-based superalloy containing molybdenum 18% has the characteristics of high melting point, low density and small thermal expansion coefficient, which is used for manufacturing various high-temperature components in aerospace and aviation. Molybdenum is widely used in electronic devices such as electron tubes, transistors and rectifiers. Molybdenum oxide and molybdate are excellent catalysts in the chemical and petroleum industries. Molybdenum disulfide is an important lubricant used in the aerospace and mechanical industries. Molybdenum is one of the essential trace elements in plants and used as microelement fertilizer in agriculture.

Pure molybdenum wire for high temperature electric furnace and EDM and wire cutting processing; Molybdenum sheets are used to make radio equipment and X-ray equipment; High temperature ablative of molybdenum is mainly used in the manufacturing of gun chamber, rocket nozzle and electric bulb tungsten wire bracket. Molybdenum is one of the seven micronutrients needed for plant growth and development. Without it, plants cannot survive. Animals and fish need molybdenum as well as plants.
