The world's largest sample of
tungsten and
molybdenum monocrystals has been grown using a technique developed by researchers at the national academy of sciences in patton, Ukraine. These monocrystals are used for large size monocrystalline rolling parts and parts production, can be used in spacecraft power supply devices, as heavy duty laser mirrors and so on.
The institute has developed 20 160 170mm large-size tungsten and molybdenum monocrystalline wafers with perfect structure, which is the best sample of single crystal in electron beam melting area.
This technique can be used not only to cultivate large size single crystal wafer and large diameter single crystal rod, but also to cultivate large size single crystal disc and single crystal tube. The flexible control of the two heat sources can improve the formation and transformation of single crystal structure. The purity of a single crystal depends only on the purity of the raw material. At present, the pilot test equipment can cultivate about 500 kg of monocrystalline tungsten or 1000 kg of monocrystalline molybdenum every year. Currently, the institute produces large - sized single - crystal tungsten wafers for sale in the United States.
The technology raises the melting point temperature higher than 2000 ℃ high melting point metal special-shaped deformed single crystal, large size integrated two heat source equipment, used for melting and refining of refractory metals and alloys, which compared with the use of a heat source, can reduce energy consumption by 25%.
